The SDC is the agency for international cooperation of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. It is responsible for the overall coordination with other federal authorities of development and cooperation with Eastern Europe as well as for humanitarian aid delivered by the Swiss Confederation. Swiss international cooperation, which is an integral part of the Federal Council’s foreign policy, aims to contribute to a world without poverty and in peace, for sustainable development.
The ZHAW is the Leading House for research collaboration with partner institutions in South Asia and Iran. Mandated by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) in 2021, the ZHAW promotes and fosters scientific cooperation with key institutions in South Asia and Iran during the funding period 2021-2024. The South Asia region includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with Iran as an additional country. In 2024 the SSPH+ LSS collaborated with the Leading House South Asia and Iran within the “Symposia and workshops call”. The grant allowed us to create our first hub in the Asia region, most specifically in Lahore, Pakistan in collaboration with the University of Management & Technology (UMT).
Swiss TPH, supported by the University of Basel, is the Leading House for bilateral research collaboration with partner institutions in Africa. Mandated by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) in 2017, the Leading House Basel promotes and fosters scientific cooperation with key institutions in Africa for the funding period 2021-2024. The funding instruments within the programme are open to researchers of all Swiss universities, universities of applied sciences and public research institutes. In 2023 the SSPH+ LSS collaborated with the Leading House Africa within the context of the "Call for Seasonal Schools organized by Swiss Institutions of Higher Education in or outside of Switzerland to sponsor African participants (PhD students)”. Thanks to this grant we were able to bring to Lugano 14 African-based PhD students who benefited from the learning and networking of the LSS, while bringing their knowledge and ideas.
